After a summer of terrible drought, Great Oaks Elementary second grade teacher Rachael Brunson decided to take action. She is using a service-learning approach to combine her science unit on the water cycle with hands-on lessons that will culminate in a water conservation service project. Jessica Woods, the City of Round Rock's new Water Conservation Specialist, has visited the classroom several times and students have gained a tremendous knowledge about the subject! The students plan to be on hand at the Great Oaks science night in February where they hope to get everybody to turn off the tap. Way to go Ms. Brunson and the Great Oaks second graders! (Jessica Woods, pictured above with water meter, is available to visit other classrooms about water conservation -- she can be reached at //jwoods@round-rock.tx.us//)
